Arthroscopic partial lateral meniscectomy long-term results in athletes.

چکیده
This is a retrospective case-control study of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy for isolated lesions of the lateral meniscus, performed between 1990 and 1995. Thirty-one knees were evaluated after an average follow-up of 8 years: 48.4% had excellent/good IKDC-scores and 64.5% excellent/good Lysholm scores. The Tegner activity score dropped from 7.2 (competitive sports) to 5.7 (recreational sports). Fairbank changes were noted in 92.9% of the radiographs. Deterioration of results after arthroscopic partial lateral meniscectomy is obvious. The extent of the resection is a significant factor.

Does arthroscopic partial meniscectomy always cause arthritis?
The goal of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy is to preserve a stable rim of meniscal cartilage, removing only unstable, diseased tissue. As one of the most common orthopedic procedures performed in the United States, arthroscopic partial meniscectomy developed as an alternative to open total meniscectomy that leads to degenerative changes in the knee over time. The short-term results of this m...
متن کاملSystematic Review Does Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy Result in Knee Osteoarthritis? A Systematic Review With a Minimum of 8 Years’ Follow-up
Purpose: Our purpose is to test the hypothesis that arthroscopic partial meniscectomy results in knee osteoarthritis at long-term follow-up. Methods: We systematically reviewed PubMed search terms “meniscus AND arthritis AND knee” and “meniscectomy AND arthritis AND knee” and included English-language, Levels I to IV evidence studies reporting either radiographic or clinical osteoarthritis outc...
متن کاملReturn to sport after arthroscopic meniscectomy on stable knees
BACKGROUND Athletes suffering from any injuries want to know when they will be able to return sports activity. The period of return-to-sport after the arthroscopic meniscectomy is still unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the period of the return-to-sport from surgery and the clinical symptoms after the meniscectomy on stable knees. METHODS Fifty-six athletes who underwent the ar...
متن کاملLong-term results of arthroscopic partial lateral meniscectomy in knees without associated damage.
We evaluated the outcome of partial lateral meniscectomy of 31 knees in 29 patients whose knees were otherwise normal. The mean follow-up was 10.3 years. According to the Lysholm score, 14 knees were rated as excellent, four as good, five as fair and eight as poor, with a mean score of 80.5 points. Radiologically, only one lateral compartment was classified as grade 0, eight as grade 1, nine as...
متن کاملResults of Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy for Lateral Discoid Meniscus Tears Associated with New Technique
PURPOSE To introduce and evaluate the clinical results of a new arthroscopic technique for partial meniscectomy of symptomatic lateral discoid meniscus using a knife. MATERIALS AND METHODS From March 2005 to October 2010, 60 knees of 58 patients underwent arthroscopic partial meniscectomies for lateral discoid meniscus. The average age was 28.9 years (range, 12 to 63 years), and average follo...
